Baby Bottle Warmer Advantages and Disadvantages

Baby bottle warmer has a number of benefits associated with it and this is the reason why many parents treat baby bottle warmer as an essential baby product. However, there are also many downsides associated with baby bottle warmers. Both advantages and disadvantages have been discussed here.

Advantages

Baby bottle warmer keeps the milk at a constant temperature. In case of microwave or stove, there is a constant need to check whether the milk is warm enough for the baby or not. There is also an additional concern of preventing the milk from becoming too hot.

Heating formula milk in a microwave results in uneven heating. There are spots in the milk which are either too hot or not warm enough. Microwaving breast milk results in the loss of many nutrients and anti-infective properties. Heating formula or breast milk in stove causes the milk to break apart which results in loss of vitamins, minerals and micro-nutrients. No such problem is associated with heating milk bottles in baby bottle warmers. Baby bottle warmer either uses water bath or steam to steadily heat the milk bottle and neither causes uneven heating nor damages the beneficial properties of the milk.

Baby bottle warmer does not take a lot of time to heat the bottle. You simply need to select the settings and wait for the signal when the milk reaches the correct temperature. This is a far cry from microwaves and stoves where you need to constantly check the temperature of the milk.

Baby bottle warmer is compact and does not take up much space. It can be put in the baby’s room itself and can be stored in the cupboard after use. Baby bottle warmer can also be carried on travels. Battery operated baby bottle warmers don’t even require electrical outlets. Many models can even plug in to the car’s electrical system allowing the parents to warm milk while travelling in the car. There are many varieties of bottle warmers available in the market which gives many choices to parents as per their requirements.

Disadvantages

There are poor quality bottle warmers available in the market which heat the bottle so much that it melts. Inferior heating elements used in such warmers are responsible for generating excessive heat which is enough to melt the bottle. It is important to purchase baby bottle warmers of reputed brands to avoid this problem.

Some models of bottle warmers take up a lot of time to warm the milk to the right temperature. The usual time taken by bottle warmers can be anything between 4 to 9 minutes. But inferior models can take up much more time to heat the milk. This is very distressing for the parents.

Another complaint associated with baby bottle warmer is poor heating. The bottle warmer may not be able to heat the milk to the required temperature. It becomes a big problem for the parents as the milk is not warm enough to feed a hungry baby.
